THE PRODUCT
Medtronic's VenaSeal Closure System (“VenaSeal System”) is designed to affect a permanent treatment of varicose veins on the legs which by essentially “sealing” these various veins which are the closest to the skin surface (superficial varicose veins). This VenaSeal System treatment utilizes a cyanoacrylate-based adhesive and additionally consists of the use of a guidewire, a dispenser gun, catheter, guid, as well as syringes.
How does it work? A physician will insert the catheter through the skin and directly into the affected, varicose vein by injecting a clear liquid. Thereafter, the physician will then monitor the catheter's placement and subsequent injection of the adhesive using ultrasound (sonogram imaging). When the adhesive is then injected into the varicose vein, the area is manually compressed and the adhesives will transform to a solid to then seal the varicose vein.
Some patients have experienced serious issues and complications subsequent to this procedure.
