CPSC Recalls Peloton Tread, Tread+ Nationwide

Peloton Tread+ Puts Small Children at Risk of Injury

The safety hazard presented by the Peloton Tread+ was brought to light after Peloton disclosed how a child suffered a tragic death by way of one of the treadmills. Thus, the CPSC launched an independent investigation into the matter.

Upon receiving a slew of reports of how the treadmill (both in use and not in use) caused injury to consumers, it was able to confirm that the child’s death was not an isolated incident.

To date, the CPSC has instituted multiple recalls on Peloton Tread and Tread+ treadmills. The aforementioned death of a child and over 70 other reported incidents sparked the May 5, 2021 recall of the Peloton Tread+, with the CPSC urging consumers to stop using it immediately.

These reports mirror the very first accounts of injury by way of Peloton Tread+ machines, mentioning either a child or a pet becoming pinned and pulled beneath the treadmill’s rear roller. The CPSC estimates that about 125,000 Peloton Tread+ machines were sold while it was on the market.

Safety Hazards Presented by Peloton Tread

As for the Peloton Tread, the Tread+’s predecessor, the treadmill’s touchscreen became a point of concern after it proved liable to fall off. This liability effectively poses a risk of injury to consumers using the treadmill. About 1,050 of these Peloton Tread machines are already in the homes of U.S. consumers. The Peloton Tread recall was also implemented by the CPSC on May 5, 2021.
